Grid Modernization: Challenges, Opportunities, and Solutions

Our aging grid infrastructure faces increasing challenges from multiple sources including greater demand variability, stricter environmental regulations and growing cyber security concerns. Advanced smart grid technologies provide possible solutions to tackle these challenges. In addition, how best to utilize these new devices and technologies such as PMUs and electric vehicles remains a challenge. This talk will address areas including demand response, stochastic optimization for renewable integration, microgrids and grid resilience.

Dr. Jianhui Wang is an assoc. professor at Southern Methodist University and principal investigator for energy-related research projects focused on smart grid, microgrids, power system operation and control, renewable integration, grid resilience and cybersecurity. He has published extensively on these subjects with an H index of 66. Prior, Dr. Wang served at Argonne National Laboratory with the last appointment as Section Lead – Advanced Grid Modeling.
