Hamed Rahimian, a Ph.D. student in ISE, was selected as Runner-Up for the INFORMS Computing Society (ICS) Student Paper prize for his paper “Identifying Effective Scenarios in Distributionally Robust Stochastic Programs with Variation Distance,” to be published in Mathematical Programming.  The ICS Student Paper Award is given annually to recognize the best paper written in the interface of operations research and computing by a student author. It is one of the most prestigious student paper prizes.

Hamed Rahimian is a Ph.D. student in the ISE department, under supervision of Prof. Guzin Bayraksan. He is majoring in Operations Research and minoring in Mathematics and Statistics. He received his M.Sc. degree in Industrial Engineering from The University of Arizona in 2012, and his M.Sc. and B.Sc. degrees in Industrial Engineering from Sharif University of Technology, Tehran, Iran, in 2011 and 2008. His research focuses on stochastic optimization, data-driven optimization, and distributionally robust stochastic programming with applications in water resources management.
