ISE alumni awarded 2nd place in prestigious IISE Pritsker Doctoral Dissertation Award

Hamed Rahimian, a recent OSU ISE alumni, was awarded 2nd place in prestigious IISE Pritsker Doctoral Dissertation Award for this dissertation entitled “Risk-Averse and Distributionally Robust Optimization: Methodology and Applications.” The award recognizes outstanding doctoral dissertation research in industrial engineering. He was honored at the IISE Annual Conference held in May 2019 in Orlando, FL.

Hamed graduated in August 2018 with a Ph.D. from the ISE department at OSU, advised by Dr. Güzin Bayraksan.  His dissertation makes significant contributions both to the theory and practice of Industrial & Systems Engineering.   A main contribution of the dissertation is identification of what scenarios are critical to a decision making problem under risk and uncertainty.  The dissertation applies its methodological results to solve real-world water resources management and healthcare problems, revealing managerial insights.
