Areas of Interest

Dr. Chen’s research focuses on the design and implementation of optimization methods for polynomial optimization and mixed-integer nonlinear programming problems. Applications involve problems involving complex systems with nonlinear features, particularly as it may pertain to problems of sustainability and resilience. Dr. Chen is concerned with power systems planning and operational problems, and is also investigating the use of integer programming in statistical learning: in variable selection problems, and possibly in the design and training of neural networks.
